Raymond is an expatriate New Zealander who has lived and worked in the United States since 1997.
Raymond started out in stockbroking as an Operator ("Trader") on the Sydney Stock Exchange trading floor, and went on to roles in Institutional Sales and Research in Australia and New Zealand, ultimately becoming Head of Research at ANZ Securities (NZ) Limited in 1996. In 1997, ANZ Securities transferred him to New York.
From 1999 to 2015, Raymond managed insurance company, pension plan and other portfolios at PICO Holdings, Inc., principally in U.S., Australasian and Swiss small-capitalization value stocks and bonds.
In January 2016, Raymond launched his own company, Industrial Equity, LLC, which makes value investments in under-appreciated U.S. stocks and bonds.
Raymond is in his twelfth year as a mentor in the Columbia Business School Value Investing MBA Mentoring Program. He has been a guest speaker in senior finance classes at New York University and the University of Auckland, and a guest speaker and occasional panelist or judge at student investment club events held at Yale University, Columbia, and Pomona College in the U.S., and Victoria University and Auckland in New Zealand.
